Likely to be in Brest for the next two days at least, looking at Sunday departure across the Bay to Spain. Any weather tips!

First Crossing - English Channel
Departed Fowey in brilliant sunshine after a leisurely morning and walk around the picturesque town. Winds west to south west 3-5 meant a fine reach across the Channel under full and sometimes first reefed sails. Taking a more westerly track than we actually needed, we found ourselves motor sailing when the wind died as the light came up. A long, and tiring night for D, and a longer motor up the Brest estuary to Marina du Chateau. A welcome berth and a two hour power nap put us in the mood for French shellfish and white wine. The langoustine and baguette were excellent.

Congratulations to you both ..... Your first big passage under your belts. Enjoy France xxxx
ReplyDeleteYea. Took a day to get over it. What will I be like after the Bay? :-( xx
DeleteI think you'll just get in the groove, so to speak. You could always take the slow route and do it in shorter hops? There are some divine places to hole up along that coastline. xx
DeleteWell done you guys. We know what a long passage that can feel like. Debs, now you know why I always came back from holiday cream crackered :-) ! La Caballa has been to Brest many times. If you have the time, drop in at Camaret which, in the end, became our preferred destination. If you do call in, be sure to visit the little chapel on the keyside. There is a picture on the wall in our stern cabin of the Raz - we've been there, too, a few times. Bon chance and happy sailing! Lots of love Vicx and Warrenx
ReplyDeleteGuess what! We are moving to Cameret today where we will wait for our window to cross the bay. We met a lovely German couple here and they also recommended we wait there. Xx

DeleteHi Johnny and Debs, it really sounds like you are having a good time, crossing the Channel is always tiring but the 'arrival' is always rewarding!! Looking at the Met Charts, the weather in the Bay looks okay for the next few days! There is a low tracking NW towards the UK with its outer isobars on the western edge of the Bay. Wind could be light but from the SE! What looks like a weak occluded front forming about midnight Fri/Sat and then a cold front forming by 1300 Sat passing over the Bay by 1300 Sun. I guess local forecasts and knowledge will be more accurate though.
